Personal Injury
Victoria has a very busy personal injury practice involving Road Traffic Accidents, Occupiers’ Liability, Defective Premises, Highway Tripping and Employers Liability. She undertakes work from the initial advice stage through to pleadings and trial. Victoria is happy to undertake CFA’s.
Housing
Victoria’s practice covers all aspects of housing law including possession claims, anti social behaviour orders, injunctions, committals, homelessness and allocations issues. She has gained considerable experience in appeals and judicial review hearings.
Tort Law
Victoria undertakes work in all areas of tort law. She specialises in representing and advising the Police on claims against them on a variety of issues including trespass, conversion, misfeasance in public office, unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and breach of the Human Rights Act 1998. Victoria recently represented the Police in a claim under the Mental Health Act 1983 in the High Court. She has had a succession of claims brought against the Police successfully struck out.
Chancery
Victoria is frequently instructed for Claimants and Defendants in a range of contract disputes relating to building and construction contracts. She regularly advises and acts in a range of debt recovery cases including consumer credit. She represented Barclays Bank in the leading judgment in Wales on bank charges in Rayment and Gill v Barclays Bank Plc (2007).
Victoria has considerable experience in insolvency work including setting aside statutory demands, bankruptcy petitions, possession orders, orders for sale and charging orders both on behalf of individuals and trustees.
Regulatory Law
Victoria has significant experience in prosecuting offences relating to underage sales of alcohol, breach of licence conditions, planning and enforcement notices. She is currently defending a Local Authority in their first appeal against the issue of a noise nuisance abatement notice.
Victoria regularly receives instructions from local Police Authorities on all types of civil applications dealt within in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court including forfeiture orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, anti social behaviour orders, football banning orders and firearm licences appeals.
Licensing
Victoria has a rapidly developing practice advising and representing the Police, Licensing Sub Committees and individuals on cases under the Licensing Act 2003. On three occasions she has successfully defended licensing sub – committee’s decisions to fully revoke premises licences and was involved in the first revocation in the area.
Disclosure
Member of the prosecution disclosure team in R v Tudor 2007, the second largest e – coli enquiry. Regularly instructed by a number of local authorities in disclosure matters relating to prosecutions in the Crown Court.
