Civitas Law operates its pupillage scheme in compliance with both the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales and the Equality and Diversity Code.
Our selection for pupillage is made upon the following criteria:
- An analytical mind
- Intellectual ability
- Understanding of law and the legal profession
- Expression of argument
- Ability to think under pressure
- Determination
- Dynamism
- Good interpersonal skills
- Business acumen
- Commitment to practice at Civitas Law
We are well aware of the importance of pupillage from both sides of the arrangement. Consequently, any pupillage position is offered with a view to tenancy.
The First 12 Months of Pupillage
A pupil would normally come under the supervision of two pupil supervisors during the 12-month pupillage, with regular appraisal meetings being conducted. Pupils will be given the opportunity to undertake a full range of our work, whilst broadening their experience with the pupil supervisor and other members of Chambers.
The pupillage starting in autumn 2012 is funded in the sum of £12,000 per annum plus guaranteed earnings of £10,000. Chambers also reimburses reasonable expenses incurred whilst shadowing members. Pupils are entitled to two weeks’ holiday in each six month pupillage period. No Chambers’ rent is payable during the first 12 months of pupillage.
Applications for pupillage are to be made on Chambers’ own application form which is available by clicking

A Third Six-Month Pupillage
Chambers is also looking to recruit a pupil for a 3rd six pupillage commencing in September 2011 in order to handle instructions across Chambers’ areas of work. We hope that the successful applicant may later be able to apply for tenancy.
