Practice Profile

Chancery, Business and Consumer Law

Prior to joining Civitas Cathrine spent a year as an advocate specialising in matters relating to debt and insolvency.  Since joining Civitas she has also gained experience of dealing with such matters in the High Court.  Her areas of work include: possession proceedings for mortgage and rent arrears, insolvency, return of goods, breach of factoring agreements, consumer credit issues, charging orders and determination hearings.

Cathrine has also has appeared and advised in claims for trespass and has been involved in dealing with cases relating to boundary disputes, adverse possession, challenges to wills and claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. 


Personal Injury

Cathrine regularly undertakes work in claims arising from road traffic accidents including claims for credit hire.  She has experience in low speed impact accidents and claims concerning phantom passengers.  Cathrine has also been involved in claims concerning occupier’s liability, highway tripping, accidents at work, industrial disease and medical negligence.


Public, Administrative and Regulatory Law

Cathrine has growing experience representing Local Authorities and Defendants in a number of regulatory matters including benefit fraud, planning and consumer protection prosecutions under the Trade Marks Act.  In Pupillage she was also involved in the tail end of the e-coli enquiry, the first special committee procedure of the Welsh Assembly, police disciplinary proceedings and licensing matters.


Employment Law

Cathrine appears frequently in the Employment tribunal in interim and final hearings.  She has experience in a range of matters including claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination and redundancy and issues relating to TUPE.

FURTHER INFORMATION

From July 2007 to July 2008 Cathrine worked as an advocate in the capacity of solicitor’s agent specialising in proceedings relating to debt.  She conducted around 40-45 hearings a month that included possession claims for mortgage and rent arrears, insolvency, return of goods, breach of factoring agreements, consumer credit issues and the corresponding enforcement proceedings (such as determination hearings and charging orders).

Whilst doing her undergraduate degree, Cathrine spent a summer working in the Mergers and Acquisitions department for German law firm Gleiss Lutz, who are twinned with Herbert Smith LLP in the UK.  During this time she was involved in a claim for rescission of purchase of a business that went to the State’s Court of Appeal.  She also drafted bilingual documents including articles of Association, Shareholder’s Resolutions and Share Transfer Agreements and co-ordinated work in cross-boarder transactions.  Cathrine is a near-native German speaker.
