Supporting employability skills for the next generation of legal practitioners

Civitas Law has extended its support of law students and the ULS Welsh National Mooting Championship this year by taking part in Stretlaw’s South Wales Employability Conference 2013.

Hosted at the University of Glamorgan, the conference provides a unique platform for students looking to get into the business of law (from lawyers to paralegals and CiLEX qualified practitioners to administrators, clerks and practice directors), so they can ask industry leaders and future employers what they need to get ahead.

The conference includes the finals of the ULS Welsh National Mooting Championships. Witness the best of the best from Universities across Wales battle it out for a mini-pupillage, courtesy of Civitas Law.

Highlights of the day include an opening presentation by Lexis Nexis which will present its vision of 'The Future of Law' - not to be missed. Workshop sessions on Commercial Awareness, Interview Skills and more are also scheduled and there will be opportunities to network with local practitioners to build those all-important professional relationships. Barristers and the Business Development Manager at Civitas Law will also available at the conference to provide tips and share experiences on life at the Bar – as a practitioner or as an employee supporting barristers and the profession.

Emma Waddingham, Business Development Manager, Civitas Law, will host a 10-15 minute talk, entitled:

Beyond the law: What legal businesses need from employees and graduates looking to find their place in the modern legal landscape.

Emma will offer some inside knowledge on legal employers’ needs and expectations from employees in the modern legal landscape in England and Wales and what potential candidates can do to make themselves more employable. This talk is suitable for those looking to work as a legal practitioner or as a professional supporting legal businesses (i.e. marketing, business development, management or administration).

Lexis Nexis will also hold a 'drop-in clinic' for aspiring lawyers during the whole day showcasing and highlighting the benefits of resource utilisation.

Students from all universities in Wales and England are invited to attend to help them enhance their employability skills and understanding of the business of law. Best of all, the event is FREE for all students but places are limited so register your interest by completing the fields below, and a member of the StretLaw team will get back to you - if you want to get ahead, get involved!
