We are looking for pupils to join Civitas Law in September 2023 and April 2024..

Civitas Law is Wales leading civil and public law specialist barrister’s chambers. Members of chambers practise in a range of specialist areas of law. This includes, Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Planning, Housing, Employment, Regulatory Law, Company, Commercial and Insolvency, Immigration, Asylum and Nationality, Wills, Trusts and Probate. 

Chambers is staffed by a specialist clerking team and has bespoke flexible working arrangements. Civitas Law was the first truly agile working environment in Wales.

All members of chambers, including pupils have access to a 21st century working environment including online library resources and the most up to date ways of digital working.  

The aim of pupillage is to provide all pupils with direct experience of work undertaken in chambers i.e.: Chancery, business and consumer law,  ADR and arbitration, Employment, Personal Injuries and clinical negligence, Public law, planning and regulatory work

The standard pattern of work is two periods of six months.  Each pupil is under the supervision of one pupil supervisor throughout each six month period.  In the instance of a pupil indicating a preference to experience particular work but not others the structure of the pupillage may be altered accordingly after discussion between the pupil and the Head of Pupillage.

We are looking to recruit exceptional candidates who are able to demonstrate a high level competence in the following areas: intellectual ability; market awareness; ability to work under pressure; written communication skills; oral advocacy skills; motivation; customer focus; and determination. An intention to pursue practice from Civitas Law is also sought.

 

Each pupillage is currently funded in the sum of £22,000 per annum, in the form of a grant of £10,000, payable during the first six months and guaranteed earnings of £12,000 in the second six months.

Chambers has in place a flexible system of making available drawdowns form the guaranteed earnings for pupils during their six months period so that potential cashflow difficulties are met.

Reasonable expenses incurred by a pupil whilst shadowing their pupil supervisor or any other member of Chambers (which include travelling expenses) will be met by Chambers.
